I have mentioned before that our couch is huge. 3.5 feet wide and over 7 feet long. It is a Texas size couch that we got as a hand-me-down from our beloved Turmans. We "carefully" moved it into Nicholas' first apartment. When we moved out of that apartment and into our new apartment, we hired movers. They asked for our first born in lieu of payment. Not only did they charge us the regular moving fee, but also "extra" hoisting fees at EACH apartment because the only way to get the couch into the apartment was through the sliding glass door of our 2nd story apartment. Thank goodness the couch was free to us, because we could have bought a new one!
There have been lots of discussions in the months leading up to the MOVE day about how we were going to get the couch out of our apartment. We had decided not to take it to Texas with us, and in a last ditch effort (after many other attempts), I put a notice on Craig's List that the couch was free if someone came to pick it up. It is amazing how fast people respond when something is free!
So, we had someone to get the couch off our hands, but we still needed to get it out of our apartment. Steve Dumas to the rescue! He some rope and other supplies. He and Nicholas removed one of the railings of our balcony, created a Navy worthy rigging system, and lowered the couch down to the ground! It was amazing!
