Texas State Capitol

Having Flat Stanley is a great opportunity for Nicholas and I to visit some places we haven't been in awhile. On Sunday, we headed to the Texas State Capitol Building.
The Texas Capitol is an extraordinary example of late 19th century public architecture and is widely recognized as one of the nation's most distinguished state capitols. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970 and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1986 for its "significant contribution to American history."
We actually went to the Captiol because LJ Turman was nominated for an Optimist Oustanding Youth Achievement Award in Instrumental Music. The ceremony was in the Texas House of Representatives chambers.

All the nominees (high school kids in the area) sat in the Representatives comfy chairs.
LJ didn't "win" but what an honor to be nominated as the best of the best!
This is the view from the House of Representatives gallery to outside.
Texas boasts the largest of all state capitol buildings, constructed of 15,000 carloads of pink granite. It opened in Austin May 16, 1888. the dome of the building stands seven feet higher than that of the nation’s Capitol in Washington, D.C. As they say, everything is bigger in Texas.
Nicholas loves the door hinges!
As you can see, it was a gorgeous day!
