C-SPAN's StudentCam is an annual national video documentary competition that encourages students to think seriously about issues that affect our communities and our nation. Students are asked to create a short (5-8 minute) video documentary that responds to one of the topics listed below. In the 2010 contest, students were asked to create a 5-8 minute documentary on: a) One of our country's greatest strengths; -OR- b) A challenge the country is facing.
This year 1003 entries were submitted and 75 winners were announced. LJ Turman was one of those winners! Congratulations, John! The top 27 entries will appear on C-SPAN during the month of April. LJ's will appear on C-SPAN on April 6th.
LJ's documentary is entitled "Ars Gratia Opus," (art for the sake of work). He interviewed three local artists in Austin (Nicholas included) to find out what sets art apart. LJ hypothesizes that the arts can thrive in times of economic downturn.
LJ's high school is holding an awards ceremony for him on Tuesday, and C-SPAN will be there to present him with his 3rd place credentials. They will have a viewing of his documentary as well as a phone interview he did with C-SPAN. Congratulations, JOHN! Your talent is beyond compare, and you continue to amaze me with your versatility. We feel blessed to be a part of your life and love that we will always be able to say that we were there when it all began! You are going to do amazing things as long as you "Don't Stop Believing!"
