We celebrated our first Thanksgiving in our new house at Nicholas' parents house. Nicholas' family has a big Thanksgiving for anyone who doesn't have another place to go. The Reynolds clan (Jackie, Jeff, and mini-J) and my "baby" sister, Kendall all stayed with us. They were our first real house guests! 5 adults and a child in our house, and it didn't feel too crowded! They arrived on Wednesday. We went to the Thanksgiving Eve service at church and then came home for a family dinner! I am mostly the odd one out in my family as far as food is concerned. I have talked before about how I eat "Hippie" food (aka, healthy food). It's always a challenge to make dinner for my family so that I am not making some separate for myself. I am pleased to announce that the meal I made this go round went off with flying colors! The menu consisted of: Tex-Mex pulled pork (that spent the day tenderizing in the crockpot), wheat buns, broccoli, roasted sweet potatoes and regular potatoes and grapes.
Proof that mini-J does sometimes eat without causing a "fuss." Of course, you have to stick her in the car for hours, run her around the playground, and take her to church so she is too tired to resist dinner. :) After dinner, Aunt Dana entertained mini-J while her Daddy helped Uncle Nick clean the kitchen. We played the shape game. Here are the rules: mini-J moves the necklace on floor while the adult guesses what shape it is. It is a fast moving game, and the adult has to be ready with new guesses. It doesn't really matter what the adult says, unless mini-J is making a "sssss" sound. That is OBVIOUSLY a snake. The Reynolds clan camped out in our newly finished guest room. Mini-J had a comfy cot on the floor.Kendall was the first to sleep on the new sofa. Although, Jeff and Jackie enjoyed laying on them and watching some Internet TV. Thanksgiving morning found most of the house awake bright and early. I had some cooking and chopping to do. Mini-J and I made cookies. More on that in another post. After a morning of cooking and baking, we gathered up the household and headed to Nicholas' parent house. Mini-J spent a good portion of the day playing "the ball game," and drawing pictures. There were about 25 people in total for lunch. There was a lot of food...but this is the most important:The turkey was carved,The table was set,We gave thanks and enjoyed a fabulous meal!
Even Halley had a nice time playing with the neighbor's "dog."
In the evening, we set off for the Turmans house to watch the Texas vs. Texas A&M game. There were other little girls for mini-J to play with.
When we got in the car at 11pm, mini-J crashed. She had missed her afternoon nap, but was amazingly well behaved all day. Friday morning, we hung around the house. I entertained mini-J by taking videos of her doing silly dances. I tried to get her to smile for the camera, with little success. We took a trip to the park, along with everyone else in town! And we had lunch at a "hippie" restaurant.Mini-J crashed before the family headed back to Dallas!
