Living Room Update

We went into Home Depot to pick paint colors for the living room, not to buy colors. We were just going to pick out colors so we could start thinking about accessories (curtains, rugs, furniture, etc.). We came out of Home Depot with 6 gallons and 2 pints of paint! I had to go back later and buy two more gallons to finish the living room. Painting the living room took about a week (off and on). We primed the walls (and ceiling), then put on two coats of "Venetian Stucco." In the end, we used about 5 1/2 gallons! It took some creative ingenuity (and a tall ladder) to reach everything.
Now that it is done, we adore it! It feels so much more like our home and not a bland bachelor pad. Here is our "accent" wall with the stairs/entryway and ceiling behind it.
We continued the accent wall onto the stairs so that you get the same effect when you walk in the front door from outside as when you walk from the dining room to the front door.
Nicholas detests the grey stairs with their "traction" pads. I think he is also not a fan of the tile on the landing that is halfway up the stairs.
Our entryway...disregard the light blue on the door. I was trying to decide if we were going to have to paint the door the same color as our accent wall, but have since decided against it. Now I just have to paint it back the right color.
We hung our first painting on the wall! It actually has all three of our downstairs colors in it! Sorry there isn't a better picture of the painting. I don't want to infringe upon my husband's intellectual property. Hopefully his intellectual property will one day buy my vacation home. :)
Here is a close-up of the vinyl letters on the wall. If you look in the picture above, you will notice they are right below a cut-out in the wall. I leaned over the ledge to apply the words on the wall, so I was upside down. What a rush!
Here is a shot with all three colors. You can see a hint of the Spring Green in the dining room (top left corner of picture). The main color--Venetian Stucco and the accent color--bleached denim.

  1. Love the colors - I think I'd feel right at home at your house! I'm also impressed at how level the words are since you hung them while you were upside down! Looks great!
