High School Football Championship

It may be news to you if you have never seen such movies as Varsity Blues or Friday Night Lights that football is a big deal in Texas...NFL, college, high school, middle school, even pee-wee. People watch and follow these game religiously, especially in small towns. In a place like Austin, where the University of Texas plays, but tickets are more expensive than my mortgage, it is nice to be able to attend a high school football game. It is even better to be able to see good football for only $15.
We did just that a couple of weeks ago, or last year to be precise. The high school football championship game was held at the Alamodome in San Antonio, a short drive from our house (unless you get caught in football traffic!). Westlake High School from Austin and Trinity High School from Euless (near Dallas) were the Division I 5A opponents. This was the best game of football I have ever seen, and I have been to a lot of UT football games!
The halftime show was also wonderful, especially the Westlake Band with drum major John Turman in his final drum majoral performance of high school. He is the second one from the left.

Here are all the band seniors. John is the first one in the middle without a hat on.The football game went into overtime when Westlake tied the game with 17 seconds left. In the end Westlake lost 41-38, but both teams played an amazing game of football, what some called one of the greatest championship games in Texas high school football history (according the the Austin American Statesman).
