Weekend Update

The past few weeks have been busy and filled with exciting events. We celebrated our 3 year anniversary and found out we will be having a boy on the same day. Nicholas has been furiously busy working in his studio the past few months. He recently collaborated with Brian Crumley to design jewelry for the VPL runway during New York Fashion week. They ended up with 12 pieces on the runway! Amazing since there were only about 5 other outfits that ended up with jewelry from two other artists. There was a lot of blogging and Internet buzz, which, of course, is always exciting.
Nicholas and Brian are working on plans for where to go next with this collaboration. Potential options are smaller scale pieces that would be more appropriate for the general public, having a gallery show with the work from Fashion week, and designing pieces for Brian's spring line. Wherever they go, it has been a fruitful experience for them both. They were recently in the Austin American Statesman in an article about their success at Fashion week.
Nicholas will also be showing at the Gallery Shoal Creek come April. The gallery owner has asked him to have work in the gallery by November to begin to established name recognition. It appears that the April show is being designed around Nicholas' work, an exciting and amazing accomplishment. Look for some website updates in the near future.
In other news, we are busy getting ready for baby, but also living in the moment of not already having a baby. We recently went to the Long Center for the Austin Ballet's performance of Carmina Burana. "Inspired by the forbidden desires of 13th century monks, Carmina Burana is a tale revealed through their found poetry of lust and passion. With iconic music performed live by more than 100 singers from the Grammy®-nominated choir Conspirare and The Austin Symphony, Stephen Mills' interpretation is a textured experience set to the haunting rhythms of artistic repression and the spirit of liberation that comes from breaking free." It was a lovely evening! We look forward to enjoying some more quality time together in the coming months.
