Every month is especially busy these days, and February was no exception. Nicholas celebrated his 31st birthday. Nicholas' little brother and his girlfriend were in town from Colorado for Nicholas and Lil' D's birthday. We had a nice family dinner on Nicholas' birthday night. The next night we had a double date! Dinner at South Congress Cafe and a show at Zach Scott Theater (Next to Normal). Grandma and GranBo kindly babysat Lil' D so we could have an adult evening.
Lil' D turned ONE! We had a lovely party the Sunday before the big day (also known as Superbowl Sunday) at our house to celebrate. Lil' D had lots of baby friends to enjoy! He had cake for the first time, but mostly enjoyed the blueberry and pineapple topping!
We spent an afternoon with an old school friend, Brad and his wife Lena. They were touring the US (from Russia) as the group Psalom. Beautiful acapella singing! It was their first time to meet Lil' D (out of the womb), and it was great to see them, even if for just a short time.
After that afternoon, we went to the Valentine's Dance at church. Lil' D and I enjoyed dancing and chasing balloons. Nicholas and I took turns taking pictures in the "photobooth" of all the cute kids. It was a fabulous evening!
My sister, Laurie, was in Texas for a training class so we were able to spend a day together. Lil' D enjoyed showing her all his tricks!
We also spent lots of time at the park all month.
On President's Day, we took Lil' D to LBJ State Park...his first President's Day Presidential Park visit! We enjoyed hiking, seeing animals, and meeting new friends.
Nicholas and Lil' D have been spending the afternoons having fun adventures. They have enjoyed hiking, visiting museums, and exploring their favorite local plant nursery.
Church has been a second home for us this month. I am working with another Council member to draft a vision statement for the church. The Council just finished putting together a Call Committee to Call a new Senior Pastor. I am continuing as a 7th grade Confirmation Mentor, and we assisted with the worship service on Ash Wednesday. Nicholas has been practicing with the handbell choir and will be playing during his first worship service this Sunday. He is enjoying learning to read music! He is also still teaching Jr. High Sunday School and sponsoring youth events.
We made a trip to Dallas to visit my family the last weekend in February right after Nicholas' opening at City Hall. He is part of a year long show at City Hall called the People's Gallery.
