Things I Learned At the Hospital

1. I am a redhead.
2. Because I am a redhead, my veins are likely to blow when trying to insert an IV.
3. Because I am a redhead, inserting/removing IVs, taking blood samples, and blowing veins will cause some serious bruising that may make me look like a needle abuser.
4. Most of the hospital staff we interacted with had between 3 and 5 children!
5. Hospital food is really not good, but in desperate times, it might be the best thing you have ever tasted.
6. Regardless of having a newborn, it is practically impossible to get any sleep at night because the nurses keep coming in to check on you.
7. When you deliver a 10 pound baby, the doctor will apologize profusely.
8. Breastfeeding is hard, but by the time you get a visit from the lactation consultant you will already have answered many of your questions.
9. The bed in the postpartum room is much more comfortable than the labor and delivery room bed, but sitting in bed for 2 days still makes your butt hurt.
10. You leave the hospital in pain and with lots of bumps and bruises, but you also leave with a real, live, adorable baby you get to enjoy forever, even after all the pain, bumps, and bruises are but a distant memory.
