We took our first long distance road trip with 2 kids for Jeremy and Audrey's wedding celebration. We left Friday night and drove through the night. Big Bro was excited for our trip! We left our house around 7pm and drove all the way to Cedar Park where we turned around to get my glasses. We began our official journey at 8:30pm. The boys fell asleep shortly thereafter and slept most of the night.
We drove through boring West Texas during the night, and morning brought us to delightful Colorado! We tried to get some breakfast in Raton, NM at a cute coffee shop, but they were less than friendly, so we hit the road for a better breakfast. We stopped in Colorado Springs for "brunch" and gas at Rudy's for some Texas BBQ.
Lil' Bro took a morning nap, but woke up sad as we were driving through the mountains to Keystone. We stopped at Hoosier Pass for a little stroll. Hoosier Pass is 11,542 ft. in elevation. It is located on the Continental Divide at the northern end of the Mosquito Range in a gap between Mt. Lincoln and Hoosier Ridge.
We arrived at our destination around 2pm on Saturday afternoon, (mountain time). We stayed with one of my college roommates, Stacey, in Keystone. We all enjoyed the back porch view!
Stacey made yummy lasagna for dinner, and then we went to Lake Dillon for a concert. It was really crowded, and Nicholas and I were pretty tired, so we didn't last long. Lil' Bro enjoyed a little dancing, but mostly enjoyed running away from us!
The boys enjoyed some playground time before we headed back to Stacey and Kristin's place.
On the way home, we saw a Mommy moose!
Sunday morning, we enjoyed some breakfast. Then we went for a walk around Lake Dillon. Big Bro was over the moon to ride in the backseat with his best bud, Bentley.
The walk was lovely, but completely sunny. It took a little longer than expected and we got a little sunburned and worn out.
After our morning walk, we grabbed some lunch at the Lake Frisco marina. The food was so so, but in the shade! We walked down the pier, and watched Bentley fetch sticks. Then we went home for a little rest.
While dinner was cooking, we went for a short hike behind Stacey and Kristin's house to pick wild strawberries. Big Bro became a quick expert!
We picked quite a haul and enjoyed them with ice cream for dessert!
