Fiddler on the Roof

We recently had the opportunity to see Fiddler on the Roof at the Bass Concert Hall (on the UT campus) with Nicholas' parents. I was giddy that my FAVORITE fountain was on, and even giddier that the nighttime picture turned out this awesome!
Fiddler on the Roof is a musical set in Tsarist Russia in 1905. The story centers on Tevye, the father of five daughters, and his attempts to maintain his family and religious traditions while outside influences encroach upon their lives. He must cope with both the strong-willed actions of his three older daughters—each one's choice of husband moves further away from the customs of her faith—and with the edict of the Tsar that evicts the Jews from their village.

Tevye was played by Harvey Fierstein (who, by the way, is not a Fiddler, nor does he live on a roof). You may remember him (as I do) from Mrs. Doubtfire singing "Matchmaker, Matchmaker, Make me a match (a song from Fiddler on the Roof)." It was a fabulous play. See it sometime if you can.

RI Scrapbook--2nd Story Theater

2nd Story Theater is a small community playhouse located in Warren, RI. We have gone to two plays there since living in RI, both with our friends, Nick and Liz. Most recently, we saw You Can't Take It With You.
"Eccentric and loveable, the Sycamores are a devoted family, with young Alice at its heart. When Tony Kirby falls in love with her, his rigid, bourgeois family threatens to stand in the way of the young couple’s happiness. Amidst fireworks (literally), a living-room printing press, and an ex-Russian Grand Duchess turned waitress, the Kirbys realize that love and family are where it’s at."
We had a fabulous time. We ate dinner in the Cafe and enjoyed chocolate chip cookies during the show. It is a very intimate setting. For this play, the theater was set up in the round.
