When a man retires and time is no longer a matter of urgent importance, his colleagues generally present him with a watch. - R.C. Sherriff
May 11th marked Nicholas' dad's final day of working for the City of Austin after 20 years. He has been counting down the days for quite some time. Although, he won't "officially" retire until May 31st, he will be exhausting some leave and taking a "test-run" RV trip to Nebraska to visit his brother. I say test-run, because it is a test to see if Nicholas' parents can travel together in an RV during retirement.
The Austin Water/Wastewater department had a little retirement party for BJ Tuesday afternoon. There was a really nice turnout of people to bid BJ adieu, most of whom were jealous! His boss gave a very nice presentation, the best I have ever seen. It is evident that BJ really made an impression and will be missed for his dedication and wit.
I believe this is the picture that has been on his ID badge for some time.
He received a plaque from Asst. Director for years of service at the City, an engraved "water meter" clock, and retirement pin.
He was also presented with a Texas Flag that was flown over the Capitol in honor of his retirement on May 3rd.
And he received a goody bag of Austin Water paraphernalia.
The PowerPoint presentation was filled with great memories of BJ's 20 years and some funny quotes (and old photos).
After snacks and cake, we went to Chuy's for a retirement dinner with our friend, Laura. Yeah, Tex-Mex!
