A Busy Weekend

We kicked off the weekend with an impromtu pizza night with the Huebners. We (but mostly Nicholas...I just diced) wowed them with our Whole Wheat Pizza Dough and modified Turkish Style Pizza (we use salami instead of pastrami) and listened to stories of their recent trip to Greece. From what I could tell, it was "very nice" and "very clean."
Nicholas had to work on Saturday (after our morning capuccinos, of course), so I settled in for a big dose of Turman activities. I started off the morning watching Matt's baseball team wack line drives down right field and throw a few strikeouts. I forgot to mention that it was 96 degrees on Friday, well after sundown. Sitting at Matt's game, I was wearing a jacket and jeans because it was a windy 69 degrees. Silly Texas.
After Kathryn slept the morning away trying to recover from her crazy busy week and a trip to Six Flags on Friday, she joined her softball team for an afternoon game. I made it just in time to catch her pitch a couple of innings, and also to see her team score lots of runs and win. :)
LJ's turn...Beth and I went to UT to hear LJ's high school band play at the Texas State Wind Ensemble Festival and stayed to enjoy a mini-clinic afterwards where a band director from the University of New Mexico suggested LJ's band do all these things that his band director had asked them not to do (i.e.; louder french horns). They had already started playing when we got there, so we stood outside the auditorium watching them play on the TV until there was a break between songs.
Check out that organ!
Busy LJ, of course, had another event he needed to be at immediately following the festival. We headed to the Central Presbyterian Church downtown for a benefit concert for Haiti Share sponsored by Classical Music for the World. LJ was grouped with the "Professional Musicians" and gave a stellar performance of Czardas for Horn and Piano.
Then we picked up Nicholas for some pre-dinner volleyball skills drills followed by yummy Tex-Mex.
We spent Mother's Day with Nicholas' mom. We started out at church, chatted with lots of old friends that were in town, and grabbed a sandwich at Panera.
Then we headed to the Blanton Art Museum for some culture. An A Capella choir was performing in the the loggia, and it was beautiful. Then we just walked around looking at art.
We ended the evening with a delicious dinner at Jack Allen's Kitchen. Yum!
