Welcome Home

Nicholas and I finally made it home on Friday after getting up at 4:00AM (ET) to catch our shuttle to the airport. Our flights were pretty smooth, and we both survived. We were happy to find our house in one piece and our mailbox not TOO full. All our houseplants are still alive, though need a little care. We did find this happy surprise.

Nicholas bought this hyacinth bulb for me several months ago. To force it to bloom inside, you stick it in the refridgerator for several weeks in this forcing jar. It is suppose to sprout about 3 inches before you take it out. Mine didn't ever really sprout, so after more than a few weeks in the fridge, we took it out to see what would happen. It started to sprout pretty quickly on the counter, but didn't have a bloom before we left. I wish I could capture the beautiful smell to share with you!
