August Art Events

The first weekend of August was a busy one for Nicholas. On Friday, August 3rd, he gave an artist talk at City Hall. He has a piece at City Hall as part of the People's Gallery for the year. He gave a talk, along with three other artists as part of a Fall series called "Art After Six." Lil' D and I attended the talk, but we spent the evening walking around City Hall looking at art (and trying out every phone within toddler reach) because the City Council chambers were so quiet!
On Saturday, there was an opening event at Nicholas' studio complex, ArtPost. Lil' D likes art, and especially loves being at Daddy's studio.

Wednesday Night Adventures

Wednedsay night at the Austin's Children's Museum is Community Night.
Lil' D loves the trains.
The current exhibit is all about math. We spent well over 30 minutes in the ball room.
A giant shape sorter!
Fishing with Mom
Hanging like a bat, except right side up instead of upside down.
More shape sorting
On the way back to the car, we decided to stop on the Congress bridge to watch the bats
Lil' D didn't understand why he couldn't jump into the water...from the bridge.
Mommmmmmmmm!!!!
Where's the moon? There's the moon. I see the moon. The moon sees me. God loves the moon. God loves me!

ELCA National Youth Gathering

In mid-July, Nicholas travelled with 12 high school youth from our church and adult sponsors to New Orleans for the ELCA National Youth Gathering. In preparation, he spent lots of time studying for his CDL license so he could help drive the bus. The first day, they drove to Lake Charles, LA and spent the night at a church there.
They arrived in New Orleans on Wednesday and enjoyed the "opening ceremony" mass gathering. Throughout the week, they heard from a variety of speakers, worshiped and praised, and danced. Each day had a theme: Practice Justice, Practice Discipleship, Practice Peace.
33,000 youth filled the Superdome
Friday was a really rainy day. Nicholas grabbed some rain ponchos for everyone.
Fellow sponsors
Activity Center Fun
Fun times around NOLA.
Beignets at Cafe Du Monde
Saturday night, they all enjoyed a concert by Switchfoot.
Notice a very sleepy baby who missed his Daddy?
Lil' D and I enjoyed 6 days alone. It was exhausting for this Mommy! God Bless all single parents!
